SPECIAL MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA FOR TIBETANS IN AND OUTSIDE TIBET.

While sending my greetings to all Tibetans in and outside Tibet, there are a few important issues I would like to present to you.

Since I was very young, I realized that the transformation of our governance into a democratic system was of utmost importance for Tibet’s immediate and long-term interest. Therefore, after taking responsibility as the spiritual and political leader of Tibet, I worked hard to establish such a democratic set-up in Tibet. Unfortunately, we were unable to achieve it under the harsh repression of the People’s Republic of China.

Fire Turns Banswara Tibetan Market into Ashes:

Dharamshala Nov. 12 – A massive fire that broke out in the wee hours of Monday in Rajasthan’s Banswara Tibetan sweater market left 16 shops completely destroyed. Penpa, the leader of the Tibetan market, told phayul that damage to property is estimated between 48 lakh (4.8 million) rupees to 50 lakh (5 million) rupees.

No progress made in Sino-Tibetan Talk:

Dharamsala: November 12: The special envoy Kasur Lodi Gyari accompanied by envoy Kelsang Gyaltsen and other senior aides Sonam N. Dagpo, Bhuchung K.Tsering and Kalsang Tsering are back home on November 6, 2008.  According to the Statement of Special Envoy Kasur Lodi Gyari, Head of the Tibetan Delegation dated November 6, “The main purpose of this trip was to follow up on the discussions held during the seventh round in July this year. We presented a memorandum to the Chinese leadership on genuine autonomy for the Tibetan people”.

Workshop exclusively for Monks: Mundgod:

October 29: Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) has organized one week workshop for monks and nuns at Mundgod from October 20-26. The workshop was attended by some around 58 monks and nuns from sixteen different monasteries and nunneries.

TYC Debate on Freedom:

Dharamsala: 2008 October 29: Tibetan Youth Congress Centrex organized an exclusive debate on freedom on October 28 at TIPA hall. The panel of speakers included Mr. Serta Tsultrim, MP/Editor of Tibet Express, Mr. Lhukar Jam, Freelance journalist and Mr. Phuntsok Wangchuk, ex-political prisoner/secretary of Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet. The debate was hosted by Mr. Karma Gyatso, Ex-MP/Former member of TYC Centrex/Ex-staff of RFA.

Date for the eighth round of Sino-Tibetan talk:

Gyari lodoe Gyatsen, the special envoy of H.H.The Dalai Lama said regarding the upcoming round of talks with the Chinese government that the date for the eighth round talks was not purposely declared before. It was policy that the date was not declared from both Tibetan and Chinese side.
